10 reasons why art is expensive

Coming back to my blog where I say “I hate when people say “You must be happy that you are born with a talent”

Talent is a lot of practice.. and just like you are going to school to get a job afterwards and be paid because of the study you did.. This is exactly the same.

Here are 10 reasons why art is expensive.

1. practice practice and a lot of practice. high chance the first years you make a lot of work and you dont sell any of your work.. but making art is a very expensive job.

2. Many materials are not cheap at all. Canvas or paint for example are the priciest materials. Creating art in an investment.

3. Bills needs to be paid. Yes also artists have bills they need to pay. Although when you buy a painting of an artist, 80 percent goes back in buying new art supplies.

4. While most people work the 9 to 5 life, artists work all day. They wake up and start working and go to bed when they are done working.

5. Art is unique. There is no artwork 100 percent the same.

6. The process of making a painting. Making a painting can take weeks, months.. and sometimes even more. From concept to real art piece. You have to keep in mind you don’t only buy a painting but also blood, sweat and tears. A.K.A the artist’s soul.

7. Sometimes the artist has no influence on the price and the price is set by a gallery. They wanna earn money with a work of someone else. Because they bought the art of the artist they have to increase the price to make profit.

8. Size. Size has a huge influence on the artwork. A bigger canvas is more expensive than a small canvas. Big artworks take more space in your room, more paint, more hours and shipping costs is very different if you compare it with a small painting. Shipping alone can costs you up to 2-300 Euro easy for a big artwork.

9. The medium the artist use has a big influence on the price. cheap acylic paints, expensive acrylics.. oilpaints.. some artist use gold in their paintings and yes with gold the price increase in value fast.

10. Not to forget.. The Artist. It’s all about the name. More fame means more expensive.
