Getting started with graffiti? Here are 6 essential graffiti supplies every beginner needs.

Knowing what supplies to pick up when you’re just getting started with graffiti can be hard. After all, the underground nature of graffiti doesn’t make it easy for beginners.

But don’t worry. You’re in the right place to learn about some of the most essential graffiti tools you need to make the best start.

So if you’re new to graffiti and want to progress with the right tools, here are 6 essential graffiti supplies every beginner needs.

1. Pencils

Pencils are your best friends when it comes to sketching. Especially in the beginning. It will be difficult to shape your letters, later it will be easier and more naturally for you.

2. Sketchbook.

A sketchbook as long as there are no lines in the paper it is perfect for graffiti sketching. With a sketchbook, all your graffiti sketches stay in one place and you can track your progress.

3. Paint markers.

Paint markers are perfect for coloring your sketches to really make it “pop”. There is no better thing than a sketchbook full of colored graffiti sketches. Examples of what kind of paint markers I use are “Posca” or “Molotow”

4. Spray paint.

Once you’ve gotten better at sketching, it might be time to hit the road. Although you can go out with paint markers to leave your “tag”, it is also an exciting experience to be busy with spray cans.

5. Different types of caps.

Before you start spraying you need to know what kind of caps there are. Caps are the things you push in with your finger what makes the paint comes out of the spray can. You have caps for different moments, thin lines, thick lines and much more. The caps I recommend are the “banana cap” (medium size) and the “astro fat cap” (if you want to fill a large area quickly.)

6. Protection material.

Spray paint is nasty stuff with lots of chemical gases. Although it won’t cause damage in the short term.. I really do recommend using it all the time. The mask I use is: GVS Elipse half mask
